Great Choice If You Work On The Mountains
Why these work boots are so expensive?
It’s not that they’re made with gold or something like that but the amount of work and craftsmanship that goes into making some of these work boots it’s astonishing.
Here are some of the things I like to look at when talking about why work boots are expensive…
Craftsmanship
Check out what it takes to make these Nicks Woodsman work boots. Honestly, it’s amazing!
Also, let’s be honest, many times you’ll pay first for the BRAND’S NAME and only after you pay for the PRODUCT itself.
Nothing wrong with that in my view as long as the brand delivered great products and services for the money.
The material used
More often than not, brands selling more expensive work boots will also use better quality leathers for the uppers, sole material, waterproofing technologies, etc.
Building techniques
When I’m tearing down, cutting half work boots I own, many times I see how poorly some of those work boots have been built.
Badly stitched, loose parts, badly fitting are some of the “features” of some BAD cheap work boots you’ll buy at your local store or online.
So when you buy more expensive work footwear like the boots we’ve mentioned above you rest assured you will hardly find any faults when it comes to the quality with which these boots are built.
Being expensive doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Sometimes these boots will show some defects but the brands will stand behind their brands and will provide you with good post-sale service.
This is not the case with many cheaper work boots brands out there. Once they’ve sold you the boot…bye-bye support.
Are expensive work boots better than the more affordable ones?
Are expensive work boots better than their cheaper, more affordable work boots competitors? You could assume that is the case but as I always like to say, the best work boots are the ones that YOU like and they’re comfy for YOU.
A boot doesn’t have to cost $1000 in order to be a good and comfortable pair of work boots. There are many models under $200 that are amazing for comfort and support.
The quality of the materials, the craftsmanship, and the attention to detail in the expensive work boots is what makes them more expensive really.
Additionally, most of these expensive work boot brands make work boots NOT at an industrial level. Many of them even make custom work boots.
So in order to keep the business floating by making fewer work boots than their industrialized competitors, well they have to sell their products at a higher price tag.
In some cases, as I’ve mentioned earlier, a high percentage of the price that you’re paying is just because of the brand’s name and not necessarily because of the product you’re buying.
One thing is true though and that is the most expensive work boot will outlive the cheaper ones, almost every time!
Overall though, yes, expensive work boots tend to be better than low-budget work boots.
What features can you find in expensive work boots?
Let’s see…they have diamond eyelets, ummm, only joking of course.
Expensive work boots, just like the more affordable work boots have to follow some standards in order to be considered work boots.
And depending on what type of work you’re doing or the hazards you’ll be exposed to at your workplace you will need different features.
Many of these expensive work boots will have features such as:
- rugged leather
- waterproof upper
- shanks in the arch area
- anti slippery soles
- deep lugs for outdoors job where traction is needed
- EH rated for people working with electricity
Who are expensive work boots for?
What I’ve observed over the last few years talking to people about work boots (cheap and expensive) is that each one of us likes our boots for different reasons and we feel differently about what type of footwear we wear.
This is probably something that has to do with our personality.
Some people just don’t care what footwear they wear as long as they have something on their feet that enables them to work and bring money home.
Whilst others want to have the best of the best (even when on some occasions they can’t even afford it).
Should you buy such expensive work boots online?
There are pros and cons to buying expensive work boots online.
One of the cons is of course that you can’t try them on and see how they fit. Another con is that depending on where you buy them there’s a risk of getting scammed either by buying what seems to be an original and receiving a fake work boot … or not receiving anything at all.
On the positive side though is that usually, you can find a lot of great work boots brands from the comfort of your living room, all in one place.
I personally bought a pair of Thorogoods that’s north of $200 on Amazon and I’m happy with what I’ve got. So my advice is to buy from trustworthy sources when you’re buying expensive work boots online.
Last words: Are expensive work boots worth it?
Depending on who you’re asking this question you’ll get a different answer. To some people, having expensive boots FOR WORK it’s a silly thing since you’re using the boots for work.
They’ll get dirty, scuffed, damaged, etc…so why would you spend a stupid amount of money on a pair of work boots?!
On the other hand, you have workers that take A LOT of pride in what footwear they wear, how they look when wearing those work boots.
Also, they think that if you spend most of your day AT WORK, then you better have the best work boots you can afford to provide you with comfort and support.
Personally, I’m in the middle. I agree that you have to buy the best work boots you can afford, but that doesn’t mean I have to spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of work boots. Spend as much as you can afford without going into debt just to own a badass-looking work boot (I know people that will do this).
